This is one of those rare occasions when I have to say I agree with Danny on this matter, for two reasons.
In many ways what Professor Israel had to say is supported in reality both in France and growingly in the UK. I receive hundreds of emails a day and many relate to the growth of radical Islam in Europe and it's relationship to Moslem population growth. Professor Bernard Lewis has just written a long article in the Jerusalem Post warning of this danger to not only Jews but to Christians as well. David Pryce Jones was interviewed on the ABC this last week on his book Betrayal: France The Arabs and the Jews, same thing. Sadly, its a growing fact on the ground and at some stage we will have to deal with as well. Obviously, it would be better for the Jews if someone else said it. Professor Israel is an expert in his field and I was also dismayed that his "credentials' were withdrawn.
The other reason is that next Sunday Melanie Phillips will be speaking at Beth Weizmann and I can tell you now what she says will make Professor Israel look like a softie. While often she can be on the more "extreme' side of politics what she says often makes sense. I don't like it, but from where she is living and with the ever growing hostility to Jews and Israel from within Moslem schools and Mosques in the UK, she has every right to be very worried and to express her concerns.
The general press will pick up her talk, I'm sure she will have other speaking opportunities to the wider community. Surely, we can't disassociate ourselves from her as well? She is also the sort of person who will not be censored either. She is vitriolic when she talks about the weak Jewish leadership in Britain.
Be prepared.
It's strange how the peak Jewish organisations work. They came out all macho against Ashrawi. It was obvious that the paroxysm against Hanan Ashrawi would rebound adversely. But this time, Prof. Raphael Israeli made valid points regarding problems facing societies with radical Muslim minorities only to be gagged and bucketed by his own. They should be giving him a bigger platform to explain more about the basis of his thinking. Showing off his extensive intellectual prowess rather than gagging him. It is the problem of Muslim establishment if they can't control their radical elements.
