The “Australian” headline (7 Jan. 09) should make it very clear. “Every Jewish child now a target”. If that is not a monstrous statement then what is? If that is acceptable rhetoric in anyone’s world view, or in any way justifiable, then the world has gone stark raving mad… again.
Will anyone speak out against this or is everyone so terrified and/or stupefied by terrorism that even such a statement will go unchallenged? Or has the Western world totally lost its moral compass, presenting therefore ripe pickings for the forces of evil to take control? The leaders of the free world need to make a strong statement against such threats to their citizenry.
The Israeli army does not target Palestinian children. It does everything in its power to avoid civilian casualties. It drops pamphlets warning Palestinian civilians out of harm's way. It sends sms messages warning Palestinian civilians of impending actions. It risks sending in ground troops when the air force could do the job with fewer Israeli casualties. Obscenely, the Hamas terrorists take shelter among children, old people and the most vulnerable of civilians, in schools, mosques, churches and hospitals. Civilian casualties are therefore high which then works in their favour: It allows them to play their media card, counting on the world’s sympathy for the death of Palestinian civilians. Thus, in turn, international pressure might prevent Israel from achieving her clearly stated objectives. Israel’s objectives are to stop missiles being lobbed from Gaza into Israeli civilian populations, to stop the smuggling of arms through tunnels from Egypt and to put an end to terror.
“Every Jewish child is now a target” is a lie. Every Jewish child has always been a target for Hamas and the rest of the Islamofascist world. They fail to kill many Jewish children simply because Israeli children and indeed all Israeli civilians, are protected by warning sirens, bomb shelters and safe rooms. They and the adults around them are all trained to respond quickly (usually they have about 15 seconds ) to the sirens which herald the incoming missiles from Gaza. Outside Israel, Jewish schools centres and synagogues all over the world are forced to employ additional security. But these terrorists have tragically succeeded too.
Who can forget the Hatuel family, the mother, (8 months pregnant) driving her her 11 yr old, 9 yr old, 7 yr old and 2 yr old daughters from school, all of whom were shot dead at point blank range by Islamic terrorists? Point blank! Did anyone stop to ask what kind of human being could point a gun at a sweet and innocent, two year old baby girl and pull the trigger? What kind of grievances justify such an act of barbarity? Who can forget Kobi Mandell, 13 yrs old and his friend Yossi, 14, playing hooky from school who were murdered, stoned to death by Palestinian terrorists? Who can forget the massacre at the Sbarro Pizza restaurant in Jerusalem which killed 15 Jewish civilians mostly mothers and children and injured 130 others. And on and on it goes….. Witness the celebrations in the Arab territories and throughout the Arab world, when Jewish people are murdered. What a sight to behold. Imagine a people celebrating the cold-blooded murder of women and children. Celebrating! Making heros and heroines of suicide bombers and childkillers! What kind of mentality does this suggest ?
When two soldiers accidentally strayed into Ramallah and were taken to the police station, a rioting mob of Palestinian youths came in and lynched them. They beat the soldiers to death, throwing their mutilated bodies into the street. From the window of the police station you can see, in photos taken at the time, the bloodied hands of one of the murderers, held up proudly at the window! What about the Passover massacre where families were gathered at the Park Hotel in Netanya for a Passover dinner when a suicide bomber detonated his bomb in the crowded dining room and murdered 30 people? Particularly present were elderly Jews who didn't have relatives, and other families with their children? Are these justifiable acts of an aggrieved people? But on and on it goes.
Many Israeli civilians have been killed, wounded and traumatised by terrorist actions over many years. Many Jews too, from Buenos Aires to the USA, Britain and Europe, the Near and Far East have been targeted along with non-Jews all over the world. We know this, we have ample tragic evidence, don’t we?
What a deceptive statement to say that “Now” every Jewish child is a target. What about Mumbai, where, but for the courage of a nanny, a two year old Jewish boy would be dead? He has been orphaned of course because the Islamic terrorists did succeed in torturing and murdering his mum and dad! And why? Not because they were Israeli. They were religious Jews and therefore, as the stated aim of Islamofascism, the most valued of targets. It’s all the Jews they are after. Why? Well, of course because we Jews are all pigs and apes, non-believers, who by virtue of our faith are deserving of subjugation and death. What about all the other innocent victims of terrorist abominations? What is their crime?
The western media is entirely complicit in the lies and deception of Islamic terrorists, Hamas, Fatah, Islamic Jihad and in the Lebanon, Hezbollah under Nasrallah and then the countless Islamic terrorist groups all over the world. They therefore are responsible for encouraging and exacerbating the situation. They too have the blood of innocents on their hands. By their selective reporting, bias and lust for exciting, dramatic images and stories, no matter how fictional, by their near total ignorance of the complexities of the M/E conflict, they have misrepresented the facts and caused public opinion to turn against the true victims of the conflict. The true victims are the Israeli people, the Jewish people all over the world, indeed all freedom loving people and also the Palestinian people who are being held to ransom by terrorist Islamic gangsters.
This is the reality, unpalatable as it may be.
There are those peope who are too intellectually lazy to bother with the facts. There are those who believe that every picture published in the press and every sad story about Palestinian suffering justifies the horror and terror of our times. Many I'm sure are too frightened, preferring a state of denial to facing the truth. But here is a message: It is time to wake up. It is time to stand up and be counted. Now is the time to question and fight for the truth, for our freedom and for our very lives. Now before it’s too late!
I believe Ronit, that the Western world has lost its moral compass as you suggest. Media outlets, educational, political and social systems provide "lessons" for those living in a democracy to actually "hate" our history, our Western way of life, our freedom and our success(es). Subtleties abound that we have to be humble and without pride of who we are as a people, to be "tolerant" (although there is no need for tolerance to be reciprocated), give up our beliefs and customs for fear of offending someone, be accepting (of all the abomination such as sharia law), not speak out about that which is intolerable and so on. Such subleties are usually in the language of our media (eg) 1.Israel "pounds and attacks civilian targets" while Hamas "fires rockets into southern Israel" (no mention of Hamas as the aggressor or murderer of Israeli children). 2. Israel"s "force is disproportionate to Gaza" - do we wait for Hamas to be proportionate? What about the 6,000 missiles in the previous year fired into Israel? 3. Yes, the media (newspapers and television), BBC and ABC radio are pro Palestinian apologists, believing that Israel is always "wrong" because it is a successful democracy built on the same sands as Gaza but independent and strong (how often do we hear the "David and Goliath" line?. The unsupported statements, the lies and the propaganda are unrelenting - with each day in the conflict bringing forth another "human rights violation by Israel". Sending children as human shields, snouts for terrorist activity, or as suicide bombers is a violation of humanity, but this line has been lost in the propaganda war. News abounds how the people of Gaza are starving or without humanitarian aid. However, Hamas has abundant firearms and rockets. Why? when all Arab brothers are united in Allah. It is without doubt that one keeps speaking the truth - state (loudly)the terrorism of Hamas, Hezbollah and Fatah, the barbarity as your article has described, hatred that does go unchallenged, and how Jewish people from Mumbai to Madrid are targets of violence. It is our right to speak out, and for, the state of Israel and her right to defend citizens. Yes, Israel is the victim in this conflict, but will also be the survivor if we maintain solidarity, continue to question, state the real facts of terrorism and the global threat of Islamisation in all areas of our lives no matter how unpalatable to the ill-informed.

"...what kind of human being could point a gun at a sweet and innocent, two year old baby girl and pull the trigger?" No true human being could, only an inhuman monster could do such a thing. "Imagine a people celebrating the cold-blooded murder of women and children. Celebrating! Making heros and heroines of suicide bombers and childkillers! What kind of mentality does this suggest?" It suggests the mentality of I hostis humani generis /I - enemies of the entire human race. From America, it is easy to figure out that now is the time for Israel to finish off Hamas so that those monsters can never rise up to menace innocents ever again. Members of Hamas have already proven beyond all doubt by their actions that they are i hostis humani generis /i , and every human being in the world would be perfectly justified in destroying those monsters wherever one finds them. It would be wrong and immoral to allow those monsters of Hamas the ability to continue murdering.

Yes, it surely is a monstrous deceit that NOW every Jewish child is a target. Thanks for your "visceral response" Mr Fraid. May more people be bold and passionate enough for truth to voice it. It sickens me beyond words that when I pass any Jewish school I see security men and great iron gates, necessities required to protect the children inside... and this has been the case for years now. Whose other schools in our democratic country of Australia have to be guarded like this? Tell me! It sickens me beyond description, too, that I am forever being shown by The Age, especially, agonizing pictures of poor, innocent Palestinian children and grieving mothers, but rarely ever of killed Israelis. Quite frankly, I don"t believe the majority of Australians, despite the rise in anti-semitic attacks in Melbourne, for example, are fooled by the media or the words of those who have been taught to hate Jews or have learnt mindlessly to do so. But it takes a certain degree of moral courage and fealessness to stop being a silent onlooker and to do/write something about it. Hopefully Australians will not have to be reminded again of where lies the real enemy. Thank you again.

According to the laws of war, placing military ordinance in civilian settings is forbidden because it erases the line between civilians and soldiers, and since getting at the soldiers so as to kill them is permitted, civilians will inevitably also be killed. Hezbullah, Hamas, and the Fatah-based Palestinian terrorists never put any store in any of that just-war theory or practice, since in their self understanding they are victims, period, and no matter what they do will always be justified. Their useful idiots in the West parrot this alongside them, thus demonstrating their rejection of the noble heritage of the Enlightenment. The practice has booby-trapped Israel, of course. If we hit the terrorists along with their civilian shields, we"re damned for waging war on civilians. If we refrain, so as not to be damned, the terrorists are safe, and sooner or later they"ll kill Israelis.

From the Human Rights Watch Website: Humanitarian law requires that the parties to a conflict take constant care during military operations to spare the civilian population and to "take all feasible precautions" to avoid or minimize the incidental loss of civilian life and damage to civilian objects. These precautions include: doing everything feasible to verify that the objects of attack are military objectives and not civilians or civilian objects; giving "effective advance warning" of attacks when circumstances permit; avoiding locating military objectives near densely populated areas; and endeavoring to remove a civilian population from the vicinity of military objectives.
