Carmel bushfires relief concert

B’NAI B’rith Victoria and the St Kilda Hebrew Congregation are joining forces to raise funds for the Israeli communities affected by the recent Carmel bushfires.

The two organisations are hosting a concert next Sunday, January 23, directing 100 per cent of funds raised to the emergency relief fund.

“This concert has been arranged with great heart – not one performer or technician said no,” B’nai B’rith Victoria Israel committee chairperson Esther Gross said, adding that there will be something for everyone on the night.

“We will present a lively and varied program of comedy, modern and classical music, opera, musical comedy, vocal, instrumental, as well as a short amusing film.”

Among the entertainers to be taking the stage at the Glen Eira Arts Centre Auditorium will be pianist Allan Zavod, the Adam Katz Group, comedian Ruth Yaffe with Carl Davis and vocalists Evie and Chasky Gawenda. Alexander Pokryshevski, the Purple Eclipse Band, Adiel Cohney, Amanda Rotberg, Daniela Spilken and Ryan Saffer will also feature, as will violinist Julian Schulberg and the Sefra Burstin Dance Studio.

“The concert, which commences at 7.30pm, will feature a host of sensational performers and crew … all giving their time and talents gratis to make this a success,” Gross said.

Tickets are available from Golds and Mazal Tov Book and Gift Shop, as well as over the phone.

B’nai B’rith and St Kilda Hebrew Congregation members will also be at the venue on the day to accept donations and sell tickets.

The two organisations have united before for a cause. In 2005, in the wake of the South-East Asian tsunami, the pair successfully raised more than $100,000 from a similar, one-off concert.
