The Age avoids covering Scuds

Syrians test scud missiles designed to carry chemical weapon

Syrian Scud Missiles Test

Syria's armed forces test-fired three Scud missiles designed to carry chemical weapons over neighbouring Turkey last week in stories published worldwide (but of course not in The Age).

The Syrian regime's missiles broke up over two Turkish towns which according to Turkish officials prompted an official "apology" (sorry for planning to gas your people) from the Syrian government.

Sources indicate that the Syrians have been test-firing missiles for several years, using technology acquired from fellow-member of the Axis of Evil, North Korea.

The missiles are specifically designed to deliver "air-burst" chemical weapons.

The tested missiles have a varying range, from 300 to 700 kilometres.

The tests occurred on May 27th, launched from Minakh in northen Syria. One was sent to just the Jordanian border, another was sent into the Mediterranean although ended up breaking up over two Turkish towns.

The Age's failure to cover this story is revealing of its failure to cover the Middle East in a fair and balanced way. The most recent story of any length that mentioned Syria was a travel puff piece which reminded would be latte sipping visitors how cool it is to visit police states.
