Ronaldson praises prompt action by ABC

Media Release

Senator Ronaldson has praised Mark Scott, the new ABC Managing Director for his prompt removal of an activity sheet on the Behind the News website after Senator Ronaldson condemned the material as biased.

“It is a pleasing change to see the ABC leadership team quickly acknowledging mistakes when they are made.” Senator Ronaldson said.

“I hope that we have seen an end to the ABC’s prevarication on this issue.”

“The willingness of the ABC to acknowledge mistakes will help to maintain the integrity of the organisation which has been under threat due to past failures to live up to community expectations of balance and impartiality.”

Senator Ronaldson repeated his call for BtN to retract and correct the bias previously presented to Australian students in the next show.

BtN must run a story next week that corrects its misrepresentations to impressionable young children. BtN needs to run a story that corrects earlier bias so that its educational content lives up to community expectations for balance and impartiality and meets the ABC’s obligations under its charter” Senator Ronaldson said.

“I continue to call on the ABC to abide by its charter and adopt a proactive stance to prevent further biased reporting” Senator Ronaldson concluded.
