US must axe anti-Israel report at the UN

The execrable Goldstone Report - accusing Israel of war crimes for daring to defend itself from terrorists hellbent on its destruction - will be debated in the UN Security Council this week.

Those who trumpet its "findings" - such as Libya, which will enter the report into the record - assert, in effect, that Israel has no right to self-protection. Which is tantamount to declaring that Israel has no right to exist.

This shameful charade springs from the UN Human Rights Council, where the document's accusations about the battle Israel waged to halt the rain of rockets from Gaza was cheered by some of the world's worst human rights abusers.

Iran: "Such numerous cases of gross and systematic violations of international rights and humanitarian law as willful killings ... which clearly constitute genocide."

Sudan: "Impunity leads to repeating crimes."

Syria: "Today, Gaza is the biggest concentration camp in the world."

Venezuela: "This is genocide. Israel has committed crimes against humanity that cannot go unpunished."

Yemen: "With premeditation claimed for the Gaza Holocaust, Israel committed crimes that amount to war crimes."

"Obscene" is the only word for turning the Holocaust, in which 6 million Jews were slaughtered by an anti-Semitic machinery of death, against the very state birthed in its ashes.

On Oct. 1, the Palestinian Authority, under pressure from the United States and others, had a brief interlude of decency. Its representatives chose to defer further discussion on the Goldstone Report in the Human Rights Council.

But that decision sparked ridicule by Hamas and anger in the Arab streets toward authority chief Mahmoud Abbas - including posters reading "to the trash heap of history, you traitor."

Abbas reversed course, paving the way for Libya to present the report to the Security Council.

The enemies of Israel are an energetic bunch. So, too, must be its defenders. This means you, veto-wielding Security Council member United States of America.
