ABC - Don′t Call It Terror!

It was horrifying to hear of the tragic events which occurred in London a day ago. Whilst news agencies around the world are correctly describing the heinous crimes perpetrated yesterday as acts of terrorism, it seems the ABC is standing by it's highly questionable decision to avoid describing these attacks as terrorism or the attackers as terrorists.

Will the ABC continue to stand out as the only broadcaster lacking the moral fibre to call terrorism by its name? Should the Australian government be underwriting an organisation which filters news to represent the ABC's view that 'one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter'.

What happened in London was not the act of 'freedom fighters'; 'militants' or 'activists'. Yesterday's victims in London were the direct targets of terrorists. These were acts of murder which called for serious planning and preparation, money and other resources. The BBC and much of the British and other media outlets called this what it plainly is: terror.

For how long are Australians going to be subjected to ludicrous semantic games to explain why the murderers of innocent civilians are 'freedom fighters'; 'militants' or 'activists' who must be 'understood' from their points of view? Why does the ABC insist on lending any degree of credibility to barbarians with no respect for human life. 'Terror' is the most accurate way to describe what happened and thus it is the word ABC audiences should be allowed to hear.
