Quiet washes over southern Israel as IDF strikes targets

bombshelterSunday saw Hamas rocket fire on Israel continue for a fifth day, with nine people suffering injuries from rocket strikes. Over 100 missiles were lobbed at Israel, including at least three at Tel Aviv, with some 50 being shot down by the Iron Dome anti-missile defense system.

Hopes for an immediate ceasefire faded as Hamas and Israel were reportedly having difficulty in coming to terms in Cairo. International efforts are continuing to push the two sides toward a truce before Israel launches a wider ground offensive to wipe out Gaza’s terror infrastructure.

In the meantime, Israel has continued to hit targets in the Strip. On Sunday, officials said the IDF killed the head of Hamas’s rocket launching brigades, though reports have emerged that Israel accidentally hit a neighboring home, killing 11 members of a family, including several children. The IDF denied the report that it missed its target.

After a three-hour lull Sunday night, Gaza fired a barrage of rockets at 11 p.m., hitting a home near Be’er Tuvia. Several more rockets were shot down in Ashdod, though an Iron Dome misfire was caught on live TV.
